Quinnipiac University is seeking applicants for the position of Academic Specialist for our Learning Commons to provide retention strategies and academic outreach for our students. This position consults with students, faculty, and staff in implementing data-based retention and curriculum strategies. The Academic Specialist will serve as a contact point for one or more of the schools and/or college for retention strategies, outreach opportunities, and academic resources for students. This work will be informed by data gathered locally and research into best practices.

Identify and support at-risk students Support a wide range of individual students in learning skills Using local data and research, identify support opportunities and recommend appropriate responses Assist faculty and staff with academic intervention and support strategies Interact with other professional support services on campus and in the community where deemed appropriate Promote the Learning Commons through classroom presentations, open houses, faculty orientations, and other opportunities Attend conferences, workshops, and meetings pertinent to the responsibilities of this position Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants:

Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling or a related field Experience may substitute for some education qualifications Three to five years of related experience in teaching, academic counseling, or skills assessment Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills Strong organizational skills Competency with a Windows-based platform and applications Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds
