                      Associate Vice President, Chief Diversity Officer



Quinnipiac University is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-oriented leader to assume the position of Associate Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer to provide visionary and strategic leadership that will advance the university’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, cultural awareness and sensitivity.

The Associate Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer (AVP/CDO) will directly report to the Executive Vice President and Provost of Quinnipiac University and is responsible for coordinating efforts to advance diversity and inclusion initiatives in support of the university’s core value of a strong sense of community. In this role, the AVP/CDO will lead efforts to support a campus climate that is welcoming and supportive of all members. The AVP/CDO will also coordinate diversity-oriented programs and initiatives, including the review, updating and implementation of the university’s strategic plan for diversity and inclusion.


The qualifications of the ideal candidate include the following:

• Advanced degree or earned doctorate required
• Evidence of a track record for developing effective diversity and inclusion initiatives for faculty/staff and students
• Expertise in current diversity, equity, inclusion and multiculturalism concepts and issues
• Demonstrated experience with researching, identifying and implementing best practices of diversity and inclusion
• The ability to work effectively and collegially within a university community

  • Provide vision, leadership, coordination, and strategic planning intended to ensure diversity, equity and respect for all faculty, staff, and students throughout the university; primarily responsible for coordinating, updating, and implementing the university's strategic plan for diversity and inclusion in partnership with other administrative/divisional units to ensure that all diversity initiatives are aligned with the overall university strategic plan
  • Provide leadership and coordination for educational and assessment initiatives that ensure support of the institutional mission of the university by coordinating divisional diversity and inclusion plans, goals, and objectives to guide work toward expected outcomes, assessment development and evaluation in concert with departmental initiatives and the overall strategic plan
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies to monitor and evaluate institutional-wide progress toward a diverse and inclusive work and learning environment that include continuous monitoring of the campus environment and regular assessment and evaluation of the campus climate. Develop and analyze actionable, proactive metrics that support monitoring, needs analysis, and strategic insights regarding diversity and inclusion trends as well as the development of additional resources to support these efforts
  • Formulate and implement delivery of faculty/staff development programming and training emphasizing diversity and inclusiveness
  • Advocate for infusion of diversity concepts in the general education curriculum including the multiple perspectives approach and teaching strategies that prepare students for success in a diverse and global workplace. Provide assistance to faculty in all schools and the university regarding curriculum development pertaining to diversity issues
  • Develop and present an array of innovative ideas and program concepts in support of the university’s values associated with diversity and inclusion
  • Identify, develop, foster and maintain strong internal and external relationships for the purpose of integrating diversity/inclusion initiatives which advance diversity-building partnerships in the campus and local communities
  • Formulate and implement a culture of inclusion and engagement policies, procedures, programs, and initiatives. Define and communicate internal quality standards for inclusive culture and engagement programs, and ensure that all aspects of the programs are executed against those standards. Ensure successful delivery of programs/services and monitor effectiveness of inclusive culture, diversity, and engagement programs.
  • Create and implement communication strategies and content management for programming/training, web resources for internal and external audiences, and print materials to support diversity and related initiatives
  • Collaborate with senior leaders on retention strategies for diverse faculty and staff members
  • Assume budgetary responsibility for the department and coordinate the development of the annual budget for the department
  • Collaborate with university officials on the resolution of issues resulting from complaints of discrimination, allegations of harassment, and/or reasonable accommodations. Recommend corrective action in compliance with laws, regulations, and/or university policy
  • The AVP/CDO will also perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive VP and Provost
