Description

About:

Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) invites applications for the Director of University Access Programs.  SCSU is a student-centered university providing exemplary undergraduate and graduate education to approximately 10,000 students. Founded as New Haven Normal School in 1893, Southern has evolved over the past century into a comprehensive public university committed to excellence, social justice, access, and engagement. One of four universities in the 17-member Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System, the University is located in New Haven, a culturally vibrant environment with easy access to New York City and Boston.

The Director of University Access Programs provides critical leadership to develop programs and initiatives for student populations that are more likely to persist to graduation with additional investment in their success.  Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director will serve as a campus expert and thought leader on underserved and underprepared populations of students to include first-generation, lower-income, undocumented, and academically underprepared students.  The Director will have the opportunity to build partnerships with area school districts, community organizations, and campus stakeholders to develop an enrollment pipeline through strategic recruitment and retention programs.  The Director provides oversight for the Southern Educational Opportunity Program (SEOP), which includes a robust, residential Summer Academy, with a goal of developing additional summer bridge programs.

The ideal candidate will be able to articulate a vision for partnerships and programs that expand postsecondary educational opportunities to students who otherwise might not have access. The successful candidate will be highly motivated to make a difference in the lives of students, demonstrate direct experience working successfully with diverse populations, and communicate a deep knowledge and understanding of personal and systemic barriers that prevent students from earning their degrees.  Additionally, the new Director will demonstrate a strong commitment to social justice, lead with integrity and authenticity, inspire the best in others, and empower and motivate the departmental team.  The position requires keen organizational skills, effective communication skills, and the ability to effectively utilize data to make strategic decisions.  The Director of University Access Programs must have a master’s degree and at least five years of higher education experience administering academic support programs and/or teaching underserved students.

For priority consideration, please submit a letter of interest, resume, and contact information for three professional references to Nancy Chucta at studentaffairs@southernct.edu.  Review of applications will begin on April 11, 2018 and the position will remain open until filled.  For additional information on the position including job responsibilities and requirements, visit the SCSU employment website at https://www.southernct.edu/faculty-staff/hr/jobs.html.
